Hi friends! Thank you for coming back to join me for your Weekly Dose of TLC!
I have been absent for a while because the new school year started for me, and we (as a family) have had a lot going on in September. But, I am back and hopefully able to maintain a [somewhat] regular schedule on here!
As always, I will be focusing on 3 good things for the week in this single post – everything Teacher-Life-Coach is all about:
T: The teacher in me…
L: Life hacks, good finds, and general fun
C: Motivation and inspiration
So with that, let’s get started!
T – Teacher Tired
The teacher in me…is tired.
The first month of school is always a hard transition. I try my best to maintain a regular routine and schedule throughout the summer, but September always hits me hard.
So, I don’t have anything witty to say for this part other than it’s okay to be tired, and it’s okay to let yourself rest. I feel like we [too often] think we should always be accomplishing something, but sometimes renewing is an accomplishment in itself.
L – Currently Reading…
Let’s talk books.
Some of you may know these few fun facts about me:
1. I LOVE reading.
2. I have a degree in English (plus my teaching degree and Masters in Education).
3. The shelves in my home library are organized by color.
4. I just recently became the Middle School Media Specialist/Librarian for our district.
Needless to say…books make me VERY happy!
With that being said, I wanted to share my current read with you: The Wedding People by Alison Espach.
Now, full disclosure, I am a little more than halfway through but I am finding myself in that ‘JUST ONE MORE PAGE, ONE MORE CHAPTER’ mode. I know we have all been there.
So, I fully intend to write a review when I finish the book, but for now I am giving you a printable bookmark freebie with 6 different versions to the page. Just download, print onto cardstock, and save your spot!
C – Talk, Talk, Talk
Let’s finish out our weekly TLC talking to ourselves.
Self-talk is loud…really loud. Like, it has NO ‘inside voice,’ which is why changing the way you speak to yourself is so extremely important.
It is a common truth that we generally practice caution with how we speak to others, but most of us are pretty unaware of the things we say to ourselves.
So, how do we fix this?
- Identify negative self-talk traps. You may find yourself in certain situations that increase your self-doubt and lead to negative self-talk. If you can identify these situations or events, you can anticipate and prepare yourself.
- Check in with your feelings. When those bad days or situations occur, stop to check in and evaluate your self-talk. Is it becoming negative, and if so, how can you turn it around?
- Find some humor. We all know that laughter can help relieve stress and tension. If you are needing a self-talk boost, try to find ways to laugh. Watch a funny video, listen to a comedian, or spend some time around those who make you laugh.
- Surround yourself with positive people. Have you ever noticed how you feel better after spending time with “your tribe?” These are people who accept you and bring out the best in you. And whether or not you notice it, you can absorb the outlook and emotions of people around you. This includes positive AND negative, so choose wisely.
- Give yourself positive affirmations. Sometimes all it takes is SEEING positive words or images to redirect your thoughts. Post small reminders on your computer, your mirror, your car…anywhere at all!
…and with that grab your Post-Its and leave yourself a mini pep-talk wherever you need it most.
Sending you good vibes for a fabulous week!
