Welcome to the second part in my mini-series about Growth Setting and becoming our best selves. Today we will focus on the benefits and skill of setting daily intentions.
I would like to start by asking this: What do you want to get out of today? Tomorrow? The next?
Do you ever take the time each morning to think about that? Our morning routines get so crazy, and before we know it the day is in full motion. Figuring out what we want from the day is something we often overlook, and this is where the practice of setting daily intentions comes into play.
Setting daily intentions helps us stay more mindful throughout the day. When we do so, our actions, thoughts, and words directly align with the energy we want to carry with us. Setting daily intentions also helps us stay connected to what we want to achieve and how we want to feel. They can also help us stay connected with how we become our best selves, while enriching the lives of others.
So what exactly does all this mean?
An intention, by definition, is a plan. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a goal, but it can be something we achieve, something that allows us to simply ‘be.’ When setting intentions, let’s think about these basic ideas:
- Reaction(s) – How do you want to react to situations?
- Focus – What would you like to focus on throughout the day?
- Energy – What type of energy are you bringing to yourself and others?
- Mindfulness – How can you stay present in the moment?
- Commitment – What are you dedicated to doing, thinking, feeling?
When we set our intentions, we are also making a commitment to ourselves. We are dedicated to living our best lives one task, one decision, one feeling at a time.
Come back next week as we take a look at the practice of setting daily intentions. I will be helping you create your ‘To Be’ list – much better than your usual ‘To Do’ one…and in the meantime, I will be writing my own!
Sending you good vibes…
