Self-Care

Break It Down

I had an odd dream last night. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but I do remember waking up thinking about our self-care challenge, repeating the words “chunk it” in my head. I know, I know…you’re either thinking I have completely lost it or you’re wondering what in the world “chunk it” means. Well, when we teach our little ones to read we use a chunking strategy where we have them look for chunks or pieces of a word they know. I tried to make a connection with this to self-care, but I was still coming up short.

Enter my Yogi Tea teabag today: Peace of mind comes piece by piece.

Now, that wasn’t a mere coincidence. The world was definitely trying to tell me something.

You see, often times (make that TOO MANY times) we try to tackle a project or goal or responsibility all at once. We go big or go home and while that is an AMAZING philosophy, sometimes it leaves us feeling depleted of energy, creativity, or motivation. And sometimes we put off this goal or project altogether simply because we don’t know where to start.

So, chunk it. Start where you can, with what you know. Break it down into smaller pieces so that the tasks are more manageable. Take pride in the parts you DO accomplish, and don’t focus on what’s left undone. That undone part will come in time. It will eventually be the chunk.

Today, let’s follow my teabag wisdom and find our peace piece by piece.
