Have you ever spilled your purse contents out onto the table and thought, “Where did all of that come from?” Or…have you ever taken EVERYTHING out of a closet so that you could put it all back in, hopefully more organized? Yes and yes. Well, your brain needs that too.
We don’t often think about it, but the amount of clutter we carry in our thoughts could fill a bag or two or three. That’s why it is super important, and healthy, to do a little “brain dump” here and there.
Brain dumping (not even sure that’s an actual term, but let’s consider it one) has so many benefits. It can help:
Ground you
Reduce feelings of being overwhelmed
Reduce anxiety
Spark creativity (by opening space for the good stuff)
Simply clear your head
So, the first question is…what do you dump? The answer is quite simple: stressors, nagging thoughts, ANYTHING you want. The next question? When do you do it? I will say again that the answer is simple: daily (in the morning or at night), weekly, ANYTIME you want.
Here are three versions of a Brain Dump worksheet for you to use and enjoy (links to printable versions are below).
Now, if you will excuse me – it’s time to take out the trash – literally (today IS my actual trash day) and metaphorically. Enjoy!
