Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.
KATIE REED
A few months ago I started a self-care lunch group for the teachers in my building. I aptly named it “A-Zen: From Finding Your A-Game to Finding Your Zen…and Everything in Between.” I went with the whole A-Z theme considering it was for teachers. I was clever like that.
But, the one thing we have to realize is that EVERY single person NEEDS to make self-care a priority, not just teachers. When I started gathering information for my first session, I wanted to explain why we should practice self-care. Our days are already so busy, and the last thing we need is to add One. More. Thing. to our already overflowing to-do list. Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t have to be like that.
Self-care can mean many things to different people, but essentially it is prioritizing yourself. That’s right, I said it. Prioritize yourself. Let that sink in for a second. Now, I am going to stop those thoughts that I am sure you are having and tell you SELF-CARE IS NOT SELFISH. I just said it louder for those in the back.
I will be offering some useful advice about this here and there, helping you find those activities that raise your energy, lift you up, bring you fulfillment, and help you become the best version of YOU. We will change those words, change those mindsets, and simply learn to love ourselves the way we love others.
Now, doesn’t that sound good? I thought so…
Keep being amazing, my friends.
